Congratulations, 2024 Spring Commencement graduates

Graduates in the Class of 2024 represented 55 countries, 36 U.S. states and 89 North Carolina counties. The youngest graduate was just 19, and the most seasoned graduate was 72.

Here are just a few of the many great moments from the four commencement ceremonies.

Lynn J. Good, chair, president and chief executive officer of Duke Energy, receives an honorary Doctor of Public Service for her countless efforts on behalf of UNC Charlotte and the citizens of Charlotte, the region, the state and around the world, during the morning commencement ceremony Friday, May 10.

Kenan Moore serves as bell ringer for Friday morning’s ceremony. He completed a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the Belk College of Business with a minor in Africana Studies. The old bell is rung nine times, once for each of the eight academic colleges ad once for the Graduate School.

Carlos Cruz, associate professor of physical theatre and director of the Master of Fine Arts program  in the College of Arts + Architecture, was University marshal for the Friday afternoon commencement ceremony.

“We have shaped ourselves into the people we are today. We have grown, maybe by moving into our first apartment or maybe by deciding that we needed to change majors after all. We learned how to feed both ourselves (by learning to cook) and our souls, deciding what matters in our lives and putting in the hard work to get there.”

Lyn Exum, associate professor and associate chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology in the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences, is Charlotte’s 2024 recipient of the UNC Board of Governor’s Excellence in Teaching Award.
