MRC to co-host ‘Positive Youth’ documentary screening
In partnership with the Regional Interfaith Aids Network (RAIN), the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) will host the free, public screening of “Positive Youth” at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 24, in Cone University Center McKnight Hall.
“Positive Youth,” a made-for-broadcast television documentary, follows four HIV-positive youth in four North American cities in a “cinéma vérité” style. The subjects, who range in age from their late teens to late twenties, were selected to create a dynamic perspective on the reality of living positively today. Medical and psychological experts also weigh in throughout the film, providing up-to-date facts and a historical context to the reality of living positively with HIV.
Nathan Smith, RAIN’s director of development and marketing, said the organization was excited to collaborate with UNC Charlotte’s Multicultural Resource Center to bring “Positive Youth” to the campus community. “This present-day documentary shines a light on the reality of what younger people face when they’re affected by HIV.”
Joshua Burford, the MRC’s assistant director for sexual and gender diversity, added the documentary had an important set of stories to share. “We’re happy that RAIN has chosen UNC Charlotte to host this event and look forward to the fruitful dialogue it will inspire.”
