Why did you choose to be a #NinerNationGives faculty/staff ambassador?
I’m a joiner. I like to be involved. I think being involved in activities and initiatives at Charlotte makes me enjoy my job more. I know more people and I learn more things about various areas of the University. As the saying goes, knowledge is power.
Why should faculty, staff and students make a gift to #NinerNationGives?
Working in Academic Affairs, I’m very aware of the financial need of many of our students. I encourage other faculty and staff members to donate because every donation, even just $5, helps our students.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
It’s probably cliche to say this, but it’s truly the people. I love being known as someone to go to, someone that others feel they can depend on and that will get the job done. The reason that I’m able to be that kind of person is because I truly enjoy the people I work with and want to assist them in any way possible.
What does it mean to you to work at your alma mater?
I’ve learned so much about how a university works. When I was an undergraduate student, I had no idea what a dean or provost or chancellor was. I thought my professors were the top level of authority. Now working at UNC Charlotte, earning my master’s degree in English while employed here, I was able to appreciate many aspects of the University that I wouldn’t have known about if I didn’t work here. Working at my alma mater allows me to give back to a place that has given so much to me.
What are three words to describe UNC Charlotte?
Three words to describe UNC Charlotte are collegial, motivating and flourishing
.What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
Although I am a brunette, the pigment on one side of my head and face is blonde; my eyebrow and eyelashes on the left side of my face are blonde. I wear makeup so you can’t tell. But now everyone knows!
