How long have you been at UNC Charlotte?
I started at the beginning of July, so just around two months! I haven’t been here that long, but I’m already a big Niner fan; green has always been a favorite color of mine!
Can you describe your role at UNC Charlotte?
I work on the social media team to help brainstorm, generate and execute content on the @UNCCharlotte social media channels. Along with the social media team, I help to bring student experiences and stories to light in the UNC Charlotte community.
Where did you go to school?
I graduated from N.C. State University in 2019 and majored in media communication with minors in English and journalism.
What do you enjoy most about being on the social media team?
I like how creative I get to be at work. When I first graduated from college, I didn’t think I would get a job that allowed me to flex my creativity while also being strategic. Examining trends and connecting with students are also things that bring me a lot of joy in this role. I love meeting new Niners and hearing about what they are involved with within the Charlotte community.
What’s your favorite emoji?
From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, I love to use the green heart emoji or the pickaxe hand emojis! At any other hour, you’ll see me use the melting smiley face emoji — it makes me laugh every time.
What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
I’m a BIG crafter. I love embroidery, crocheting (home-made potholders, anyone?), making cards, working with resin and designing stickers. I started crafting a lot more the past few years as a way to relax, and now I try to do something artistic or creative every day. And I’ll probably be listening to a true crime podcast the entire time. I also love doing puzzles and making homemade iced coffee.
Do you have a favorite quote?
Ruth Bader Ginsberg said, “Whatever you choose to do, leave tracks. That means don’t do it just for yourself. You will want to leave the world a little better for your having lived.” She has so many great quotes, but that one is a great reminder to live compassionately.
In addition to the Charlotte 49ers, who are your favorite sports teams?
I’ll have to be honest here: I don’t have another favorite sports team! I like going to sporting events, but I’ve never been too caught up in the competition of it all. I did join a Fantasy Football League with my friends for the upcoming season though. It’s just for fun, but if you have any advice, help!
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I love being able to showcase the student experience. College can be tough at times and if we can make a student smile by sharing something relatable or funny or exciting, that’s a great day in my book.
