Emergency response drill scheduled for Nov. 15
UNC Charlotte, in partnership with the Charlotte Fire Department (CFD), will conduct a small-scale drill on Friday, Nov. 15, at North Deck. The drill will begin around 1 p.m. and will continue for approximately four hours.
The drill will be an initial testing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) developed between the University and CFD on how to respond to on-campus fire emergencies. The drill will allow CFD to test important fire-suppression equipment and capabilities on campus to ensure they are in good working order.
During the drill, fire trucks will be seen on campus, but the trucks should not have lights or sirens activated. Several local fire stations will participate in the drill, which includes hooking up their truck’s hoses to a nearby hydrant, running the hose to the appropriate fire department connections and spraying the perceived distress area.
Signage will be placed around the drill site directing pedestrians and vehicular traffic to use caution. The top level of North Deck will be unavailable for use before, during and immediately after the drill.
Direct questions to Chris Gonyar, director of emergency management, at cgonyar@uncc.edu.
This drill poses no threat to campus. Should a threat arise, a NinerAlert will be issued.
