Academic Affairs staff member Keisha Martin has died

Keisha Martin, an administrative support associate in the Office of Academic Affairs, died on June 13.

Martin, who joined UNC Charlotte in October 2007, assisted with special projects. She was chapter administrator of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective multidisciplinary collegiate honor society. In this role, she supported the past four chapter presidents, and the national PKP office featured her in its online volunteer spotlight in June 2015.

Additionally, Martin provided administrative assistance for the Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence, helping with the nomination process, document collection and organization and selection committee facilitation. She also handled the majority of the Academic Affairs Office’s event planning needs.

Colleagues noted she established great working relationships with CRES, Chartwells, Atkins Library and other groups across campus. “It is Keisha’s professional and sincere contact with every person with whom she interacted that she will always be remembered for.”

Prior to Academic Affairs, Martin work in the Dean’s Office in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. Before UNC Charlotte, Martin was employed by the South Carolina Judicial Department Court Administration.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, June 22, at Grier Funeral Service Inc.; a visitation begins at noon.
