University to conduct NinerAlerts test Oct. 24
The Office of Emergency Management and the Police and Public Safety Department will conduct a full test of the NinerAlert system at approximately 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24. All methods of alert notification will be used. This includes text messaging, email, Alertus technology (on-campus screen takeover), LiveSafe and social media.
The test message will read:
NinerAlerts: This is a test of the UNC Charlotte Emergency Alert System. This is only a test.
Before the test, employees and students are encouraged to log in to Banner Self Service to ensure their cell phone information is correct.
Approximately 30 minutes after the test message is sent, the on-campus sirens will be tested. A voice message on the sirens will announce it is a test.
In the event of an actual emergency, the tests will be canceled and appropriate instructions will be sent via NinerAlerts.
Individuals who have any questions about the University’s alert system or the test should contact Chris Gonyar, director of emergency management, at cgonyar@uncc.edu or 704-687-7884 or Lt. Brian Thomas at bsthomas@uncc.edu or 704-687-8455.
