Meet Tife Olusesi
Tife Olusesi ’23, student body president, is working toward a certificate in urban management and policy. Learn what he hopes to accomplish as SGA president, his three binge-worthy shows, and why you should never underestimate your capabilities.
What do you hope to accomplish this year in your role as president of the Student Government Association?
I hope to provide a level of connection and accessibility that allows students to feel encouraged and supported in their academic, social and personal spheres. It is very important that we communicate opportunities and resources as frequently and efficiently as possible.
How did you find a work-life balance?
I always allow myself to unplug and destress habitually by maintaining certain mindful habits that keep me mentally balanced. I stay connected to loved ones and try to infuse as much life into my work as possible.
What’s your favorite Charlotte memory so far?
My favorite Charlotte memory is watching movies my freshman year in the Scott Hall movie theater. We would rent it out, and it was always a fun place to unwind and have a good time with friends.
What’s one piece of advice for new students and freshmen?
Don’t ever put any limitations on what you think you’re capable of doing. The world tries to do enough of that as it is, and it’s usually wrong.
When you’re not studying, what do you like to do for fun?
I listen to music, watch movies, go to concerts and hang out with my frat brothers and friends. I binge-watch the same three shows, “Peaky Blinders,” “Ozark” and “House of Cards,” and I’m always taking suggestions.
What’s a subject that you’re passionate about?
Arts and culture hold a special place in my heart. Being Nigerian and growing up in a rich, musical and cultural environment, I appreciate the value of artistic expression, civil discourse and creativity.
Who inspires you the most?
My mother definitely inspires me the most. She holds me to a standard. All things are possible because of the people who support us, and she’s my biggest one.
