Princeton Review selects UNC Charlotte for its 2024 Guide to Green Colleges
UNC Charlotte again is on Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Colleges, an annual publication that recognizes academic institutions’ sustainability-related policies, practices and programs. UNC Charlotte is one of 522 colleges included in the 2024 edition. This unranked list is based on reporting from university administrators on an institution’s sustainability-related academic offerings, campus initiatives, policies, practices and incentives to prepare students to enter into “green” professions.
“Inclusion in the Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Colleges tells potential students and their parents that Charlotte is a healthy, clean and responsible University committed to a sustainable future,” said Mike Lizotte, university sustainability officer.
Studies by Princeton Review indicate that 69% of 8,800 college applicants surveyed in 2023 state a college’s environmental commitment would affect their choice of schools.
The Princeton Review editors provide a Green Rating score, and schools with a score of 80 or higher are included in the guidebook. UNC Charlotte scored a 92 and was recognized for having dedicated sustainability staff and committees, degree programs, transportation options and posting a public greenhouse gas inventory.
UNC Charlotte’s 10-year strategic plan “Shaping What’s Next,” launched in 2021, includes making UNC Charlotte a national leader in sustainability. The University’s Office of Sustainability collaborates with faculty, staff and students to measure progress, propose solutions, initiate changes, develop skills and share experiences that create conditions contributing to environmental, social and financial dimensions of sustainability.
