ASC awards artist support grants to seven faculty members
Seven current College of Arts + Architecture faculty members are among recent grant recipients from the Arts & Science Council. They earned Artist Support Grants, which fund professional and artistic development for emerging and established artists to enhance their skills and abilities to create work or to improve their business operations and capacity to bring their work to new audiences.
The 2024 ASC grant recipients are:
- Brian Arreola, professor of voice, received $3,000 to fund a string quartet to perform his operatic work “Zavala-Zavala.”
- E.E. Balcos, professor of dance, received $3,000 to participate in the body-mind centering course on the ligamentous and fascial system in Lorraine, Oregon.
- Audrey Baran, visiting assistant professor of dance, received $3,000 to support teaching certification in MUNZ FLOOR, a somatic method utilizing spiral movement patterns and three-dimensional forces to facilitate spinal decompression and fascia regeneration.
- Jessica Lindsey, associate professor of clarinet, received $3,000 toward editing and mastering the CD, “Carolina Homegrown Melodies,” featuring works by local composers performed by Lindsey with the chamber ensemble, The Burnt Reeds.
- Eric Millard, associate professor of trumpet, received $3,000 to fund a diversity-focused brass trio commission and international premiere.
- Elizabeth Sullivan, associate professor of oboe, received $2,750 to produce a sensory-friendly concert program.
- Tamara Williams, associate professor of dance, received $3,000 to support the creation and presentation of a new choreographic work, “E ku Odun: A celebration of us!”
In addition, alumni Kalin Devone ‘15 and Anna Edwards ‘18 and Adjunct Professor of Jazz Greg Jarrell received Artist Support Grants for personal projects.
