A message of care for the campus community

Dear Niners,

Over the last two weekends, tragic acts of violence have unfolded on campuses and in communities across the country. An attack left four students at the University of Idaho dead, a gunman took the lives of three UVA football players and injured two other students — including another member of the football team — and most recently, there was a shooting at Club Q, an LGTBQIA+ nightclub, in Colorado Springs.

Our hearts grieve with the families, friends and communities affected by these senseless acts.

Many in Niner Nation understand all too well the pain these tragedies leave in their wake. We want you to know that if you need support during this time, there are resources available to you.

Please remember that there are also safety resources to help you, too. Police and Public Safety is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by dialing 704-687-2200 from your cell phone or 911 from a campus phone. They also offer ALICE active assailant response training to members of the UNC Charlotte community. Making sure your contact information is up-to-date in Banner Self-Service helps ensure you receive all NinerAlert messages from the University in the event of an emergency. You can report concerns for members of our community or incidents of harassment or bias using incidentreport.charlottewp.psapp.dev.

The next few weeks can be additionally stressful with holidays, travel and exams. Please extend grace and kindness to yourself and others. We are here to support you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Christine Reed Davis
Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students

Gary W. Stinnett
Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources
