Darius Griffin, UNC Charlotte’s director of the Environmental Health and Safety Office, was appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association, the only organization focused entirely on serving environmental health and safety professionals in higher education.

“I look forward to collaborating with other higher education EHS professionals to fully realize CSHEMA’s strategic plan, increase inclusive opportunities for involvement and strengthen our community as we continue to innovate safety services,” said Griffin.

Griffin has been involved with CSHEMA since 2000 attending conferences, presenting workshops and collaborating with colleagues. He has served on the organization’s nomination committee and virtual symposium planning team.

“My work with CSHEMA has provided me with direct access to cutting-edge EHS resources that help minimize institutional risk and assist departments with managing operational compliance risk,” Griffin said.

As the longest-tenured employee in the Office of Safety and Security, Griffin supports the University’s mission of teaching, research and service by providing strategic leadership for a campuswide environmental health and safety program. He leads a cross-functional team of professionals with environmental, occupational health, industrial hygiene, construction, laboratory and research safety expertise.

“I enjoy creating innovative EHS programs and services that provide cost-effective opportunities to maintain a safe and healthy working, teaching and learning environment,” said Griffin. “I also enjoy working with a diverse campus community to eliminate hazards, prevent injuries and ensure regulatory compliance.”
