University update about COVID-19
As COVID-19 becomes more of an endemic than a pandemic in the United States, UNC Charlotte continues to make some changes to campus protocols. The University is no longer requiring masks on Niner Transit in line with federal guidelines. Masks will remain mandatory in the Student Health Center.
“We continue to see manageable trends with COVID-19 on campus, which is consistent with trends in Mecklenburg County, the state and country,” said John Bogdan, associate vice chancellor for safety and security. “We understand the virus will be here for quite some time, but with strong vaccination rates and good personal choices around safety, it is manageable.”
As a reminder, masks are available in the Popp Martin Student Union, Atkins Library and the Career Center for individuals who wish to wear one. When worn correctly, face masks provide some protection against the spread of COVID-19. Campus testing and booster shots remain available to all members of the campus community.
Earlier this week the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported three out of every four children have been infected by COVID and numbers dating to February 2022 indicate that among all Americans, 60 percent have been infected. And Anthony Fauci, chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden, spoke with Judy Woodruff on PBS NewsHour on why the United States is ‘out of the pandemic phase.’
