Dean Reynolds to match gifts to Student Emergency Fund
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, so do the unforeseen financial challenges for UNC Charlotte students, including affording housing, transportation, food, medical expenses and gaining access to necessary resources needed for remote learning.
UNC Charlotte has been able to distribute $7,843,958 as CARES Act Emergency Grants to 7,062 students. However, federal requirements associated with the CARES Act do not allow the distribution of these funds to international students, undocumented students, students who are only enrolled in Distance Education programs or new students who were not enrolled in spring 2020.
In an effort to provide relief to all current and future students, including international, Tom Reynolds, associate provost and dean of the Graduate School, has issued a challenge to Niner Nation. He will generously match dollar-for-dollar all gifts made to the UNC Charlotte Student Emergency Fund up to $5,000 through June 30, 2020.
“The UNC Charlotte Student Emergency Fund fills an important need among current and future students, including international students, for assistance with unexpected, unforeseen and unavoidable emergency expenses,” said Reynolds. “This is an excellent opportunity for us all to show our students we truly care.”
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Student Emergency Fund has awarded more than $430,500 to 1,231 students.
