On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees recommended a 3 percent increase in the annual charges for tuition and fees for undergraduate and graduate students, effective for the 2020-21 academic year. It is the first tuition increase for UNC Charlotte in three years.

Overall, the increase amounts to an additional $114 in tuition annually for undergraduate students, and a $130 increase annually for graduate students. The 3 percent increase aligns with the cap set by the UNC System Board of Governors.

The Trustees also approved a $93 increase in fees paid by all students for various activities and services. This fee increase is consistent with a recommendation made by the UNC Charlotte student advisory board and Chancellor Philip L. Dubois.

“Historically, UNC Charlotte has been—and remains—committed to providing an accessible, affordable and high-quality higher education experience for all students; for that reason, tuition for students starting next fall will be frozen for four years,” said Dubois.

In 2020-21, the total cost of tuition and fees for North Carolina-resident undergraduate students is $7,113 (up from $6,906). Tuition and fees for out-of-state undergraduate students will be $20,547 (from $20,340).
