Rugby players earn All American honors
Four members of UNC Charlotte’s 2018 national championship Men’s Rugby Club team recently were named honorary Men’s Collegiate All Americans Sevens recipients.
Michael Basnett, a senior biology major from Cape Town, South Africa, and Tyrek Huntley, a rising junior kinesiology major from Monroe, North Carolina, were named first team All American for USA College Rugby Division 2 Sevens, (a style of rugby that features seven players).
Matthew Plott, a rising senior from Monroe, North Carolina, majoring in construction management, and Ryan Johns, a senior from Concord, North Carolina, who is majoring in exercise science, were second team All Americans.
In May, UNC Charlotte won the national championship for Men’s Division 2 College Sevens. The team defeated the reigning champs University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
