Lean Six Sigma White Belt Certification
Thursday, Oct. 1
Online
The White Belt program provides a brief overview of three of the most-widely used total quality management methodologies in industry today. The first half of the program covers an introduction to the Six Sigma methodology used to improve existing processes or design new processes. The second half of the program is a brief introduction to the methodology called Lean, which provides participants with the general knowledge of the terms used by practitioners in industry today.

Principles of Forensic Accounting

Online
This course provides an overview of forensic accounting and fraud examination as a discipline. Participants will review the ways in which serious fraud and abuse occurs, examine characteristics of employees who commit fraud and determine of the kinds of organizations that are victims of fraud. Participants also will be introduced to guiding legal principles and standards of care related to litigation support services.

Essentials of Human Resource Management

This course is designed to appeal to both new and experienced HR management professionals. Topics include HR trends, developing issues, regulatory changes and the changing business environment. The course provides an overview of current practices and helps participants develop skills and tools to deal with modern and developing HR challenges.

Process Mapping and Analysis

Process mapping is a simple yet powerful method of looking beyond functional activities and rediscovering core processes. They enable one to peel away the complexity of his/her organizational structure (and internal politics) and focus on the processes that are truly the heart of a business. Properly used, process maps can change the entire approach to business process management and greatly reduce the cost of operations.

Essentials of Training Delivery

This course will identify, consolidate and discuss the most effective approaches to ensure one’s success as a trainer, regardless of the industry in which he or she works. It will enable an individual to discover, discuss and practice effective techniques needed as a trainer. Participants will learn how to manage the classroom environment they are in and the people that are in it. Attendees also will gain knowledge in the basics of adult learning theory.

Principles of Project Management

This course is intended as an overview; it will describe the fundamental principles, processes, knowledge areas and tools and techniques of project management and is designed for practical application in the workplace. This two-day foundation course covers the primary topics described by the Project Management Institute (PMI ®) in its publication “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.”

Lean Six Sigma Orange Belt Certification

The course provides a general overview of the skills needed to support Lean Six Sigma practitioners as a project champion. The first half of the course covers an introduction to the different styles of leadership needed to champion a Lean Six Sigma project. The second half of the course covers the critical leadership skills and competencies needed to build and lead powerful Six Sigma teams in a domestic or global environment.

2015-16 Fire and Rescue Management Institute

The Fire and Rescue Management Institute is a professional development certificate program designed for company officers, chief officers and future leaders within the fire service. Fire and rescue professionals in managerial and supervisory roles are expected to be team leaders and must possess the ability to guide their staff in the achievement of department, division or unit goals.

Driving Employee Engagement and Retention

In this course, attendees will learn why engaged employees are more productive and from an HR perspective how one can increase levels of engagement within the workforce. Explore the interdependence of attracting, retaining and engaging employees and how key engagement drivers impact a company’s culture and a company’s bottom line.

Business Analysis Success (3.0)

Version 3.0 of the “Business Analysis Body of Knowledge” emphasizes the importance of value creation in the role of the business analyst. An analyst still must gather accurate requirements from business users. To maximize the positive impact of recommended solutions, the business analyst must understand the strategic context for a given project and guide solution design. Success for the analyst should be measured by the value an implemented solution adds for the organization and its customers.

Negotiation Strategies

Negotiating, in many forms, is a critical part of every manager’s role. Working with direct reports, peers, bosses, vendors and clients requires agility and flexibility in the way managers approach this process. This course will provide tools for negotiating in a variety of ways with a variety of stakeholders.

Ethics 101

8:30 to 10:30 a.m., UNC Charlotte Center City
This course is designed to meet the two hours of ethics training CPAs in North Carolina must receive each year in order to meet the N.C. Board of Examiners requirements for certificate renewal. The course will discuss pertinent accountancy law in North Carolina as well as professional ethical issues and standards.

PMP Exam Preparation
Monday, Oct. 19
6 to 9:30 p.m., UNC Charlotte Center City
This course concentrates on the fundamental concepts of the Project Management Institute’s thinking and approach to project management topics, concepts, vocabulary and testing techniques. The course expands on what’s in the PMBOK Guide to ensure that individuals have a better understanding of the topics that they might be tested on and how to prepare for the exam.

Training Needs Analysis

This course will provide participants with modern, efficient tools for conducting a needs analysis in today’s fast-paced business environment. But most importantly, participants will learn how to identify if training is really the right solution before they start to build it.

Project Schedule Development and Control
Wednesday, Oct. 21
9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., UNC Charlotte Center City
This course will give participants a clear understanding of schedule development, presentation tools, techniques and methods to improve and control schedule performance. In addition to key aspects of schedule development, practical case studies will be used to allow sufficient practice of the control techniques and give the project manager a sound basis for effective application of scheduling software.

The Retirement Survival Course

Anyone who is retired or getting close to retirement will learn fundamental principles to ensure that their money lasts. Participants will discover how to better manage their investments, consider taxes when making decisions, increase their monthly income, protect their life’s savings from investment mistakes and prepare for the biggest risks they will face in retirement.

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification

8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.,UNC Charlotte Center City
The course covers the Lean Six Sigma methodology and tools used to improve existing processes or design new processes. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to lead Lean Six Sigma projects to improve processes within their workplace. Included in the cost of this course is 30 minutes of project coaching each week for up to 13 weeks by a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Upon completion of a DMAIC, DMADV, or Lean project storyboard the student will be certified as a Green Belt.

Measuring and Improving Processes

Understanding which customers and which requirements are most critical to a business determines which processes should be improved. Before relying on advanced Six Sigma techniques, significant process learning can be achieved using tools such as trend charts, Pareto charts, histograms and fishbone diagrams.

HR for CPA Dummies

This course will highlight the fundamentals of overseeing a human resources function, geared toward the financial professional. With special emphasis on managing these areas, the course will review pertinent legal updates, as well as the essentials of hiring and firing, records keeping/retention, benefits administration, compensation/employment status, workforce reorganizations including mergers/acquisitions and layoffs and the importance of a healthy culture.

Finance and Accounting for Engineers

Understanding of finance and accounting principles by engineers is important in interfacing with accountants, financial analysts and members of upper management. This course provides an overview of important principles in the fields of finance and accounting as well as project economic analysis. Participants become familiar with decision making skills founded on financial ratios and quantitative analysis based on project economics.

EMS Management Institute 2015-2016

The Management Institute is a cohort-based professional development certificate program designed for supervisors, training officers, administrators, senior paramedics and future leaders within emergency medical services. Cyber Security

Network outages, data compromised by hackers, computer viruses and other incidents affect lives in ways that range from inconvenient to life-threatening. As the number of mobile users, digital applications and data networks increase, so do the opportunities for exploitation. Cyber security focuses on protecting computers, networks, programs and data from unintended or unauthorized access, change or destruction.

Primer on Corporate Fraud and ‘Effective’ Corporate Compliance

This half-day course will provide an overview of the various types of federal frauds that occur in various industries, as well as the tools that are often used to combat them – both by the federal government (through external enforcement), as well as by organizations (through internal self-governance and compliance).
