Counseling Center provides mental health resources
College students can experience stress brought on by academics or personal circumstances. Knowing where to turn to for support is critical.
The UNC Charlotte Counseling Center, located in Atkins Building, Room 158, offers a variety of programming to address academic, emotional, psychological and interpersonal development challenges faced by college students.
Traumatic events, such as death or illness, can trigger serious emotional reactions and resurface difficult memories for students. Coping and stress management skills are provided by the center to assist students experiencing such challenges.
David Spano, associate vice chancellor for health programs and services and Counseling Center director, stressed that students who are suffering from severe depression or thoughts of suicide should seek help as soon as possible and before the problem gets worse.
“The Counseling Center is dedicated to supporting students,” said Spano. “They do not have to deal with their issues on their own.”
Counseling Center services include, but are not limited to:
- Individual, couple and group counseling
- Consultation to students, faculty, staff and parents
- Referrals to the Student Health Center for psychiatric services
- Self-help brochures on a number of topics
Individuals who are experiencing or who know someone experiencing emotional and mental issues are encouraged to reach out to the Counseling Center.
