‘Light Rail Connects Us’ – train tests scheduled to start this week
Later this week, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will begin testing trains along the route to the UNC Charlotte Main Station. There will be trains traveling at very slow speeds on the tracks and possibly stopping at the station on campus. This will occur primarily in evening hours.
PPS conducting on-campus training today, Thursday
UNC Charlotte’s Police and Public Safety Department will conduct on-campus training today, Tuesday, June 6, and Thursday, June 8, near Oak Hall. There will be an increased police presence in that area, and individuals will likely see officers in tactical gear.
This is part of routine training conducted by PPS.

University’s Smoking and Use of Tobacco Products Policy revised
Effective June 1, University Policy 707, Smoking and Use of Tobacco Products, has been revised by adding a new defined term, “tobacco product,” which means a cigarette, a cigar, chewing tobacco, vapor product or any other product that contains tobacco and is intended for inhalation, oral use or nasal use. The term does not include nicotine patches, nicotine gum, nicotine lozenges or other tobacco cessation products.
NuPark selected to bring smart parking solutions to campus
Construction across campus continues in order to prepare parking lots and decks for license plate recognition (LPR) that will grant parking permissions for permit purchasers.
Recently, UNC Charlotte selected NuPark as the vendor to bring smart parking to campus operations. The University will implement NuPark’s open parking management platform, which includes LPR, virtual permits, gate system integration and multiple mobile payment options.

Windows computer users must take action
ITS will push an update to Windows computers by division between June 6-9 that will reorganize the University’s Active Directory, the database that manages user accounts and groups.
On the date scheduled for each division (see below), employees should close all of their open applications and logout; leave the Windows computer on. Computers will reboot at approximately 10 p.m. For individuals who forget and turn their computer off, the update will occur when the computer is turned back on.

East Deck entrances/crossover to close temporarily
The entrances and exits that cross from East Deck 1 to East Deck 2 will be closed for construction beginning at 7 a.m., Friday, May 26, through 5 p.m., Friday, June 9.
Expect lane closures, construction equipment and noise and dust as existing gate equipment is upgraded.
Drivers and pedestrians are reminded to approach construction zones with caution.
