Disability services honors employees for their commitment to accessibility

The Office of Disability Services recently presented its Accessibility Excellence Award for Outstanding Faculty/Staff to 11 individuals in recognition of their “strong commitment to accessibility and disability-related issues.”

Retiring faculty honored for 357 combined years of service

Thirteen faculty members whose combined service to the University totaled 357 years were honored at an annual event Wednesday, May 3, at the Harris Alumni Center. University leaders noted that each of the retirees had been active participants in the many changes and milestones in the life of the University.

Chancellor Philip L. Dubois presided over the program, offering remembrances of each retiree. Additionally, he noted the University’s recent 70th anniversary and recognized that a few retirees with more than 35 years of service helped to write half of the University’s story.

Traynor needs shared leave

Exceptional CLAS faculty honored with teaching excellence awards

In recognition of their exceptional teaching, Ashley Bryan, Nishi Bryska and Ian Marriott have received the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences’ Excellence in Teaching Awards for 2017.

Safety tips during ongoing light rail construction

UNC Charlotte and the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) continue to prepare the campus for light rail’s arrival. This summer will bring an increase in construction traffic, periodic traffic disruption and several active construction sites.

Goldfield talks presidential election in Russia

David Goldfield, the Robert Lee Bailey Professor of History, recently visited Russia as an academic specialist for the U.S. State Department.

He delivered the presentation “The Politics of Change in America,” which focused on the 2016 presidential election, at the Russian State University for the Humanities. Goldfield also conferred with the U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Tefft, during a reception at Spaso House.

In his role with the U.S. State Department, Goldfield travels abroad to lead seminars and workshops on various aspects of American political culture.

Workshop organized by Veteran Services taught self-defense techniques

Student veterans, their spouses and dependents, along with members of the Dean of Students Office, recently participated in a special self-defense/sexual assault prevention workshop.

UNC Charlotte’s Title IX Office and Police and Public Safety Department can provide assistance and programming focused on educating and preventing sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. The Counseling Center and the Center for Wellness Promotion also provide resources and services.

Reminder regarding University receipt books

Employees who collect cash and/or checks for sales, events, etc. in campus departments/units should log these transactions in a University receipt book.

To obtain a receipt book:

Brick pavers being installed between King and Reese buildings

Construction will begin Friday, May 5, to install brick pavers between King and Reese buildings to match the rest of the plaza.

Safety fencing will remain in place until the completion of the work, which is expected by Friday, June 30.

Expect some noise/dust and occasional vehicular traffic on the ramp near the Colvard Building. Members of the campus community and visitors should exercise caution when approaching construction zones.
