Deidra Harris-Lumpkins appointed associate vice chancellor for human resources

Deidra Harris-Lumpkins has been appointed associate vice chancellor for human resources and university affirmative action officer. Harris-Lumpkins begins her duties Jan. 30, 2023, succeeding Gary Stinnett, who will retire after 26 years of service to the institution.

Michelle Meggs is the executive director of the Women + Girls Research Alliance. It encourages engaged research focused on issues related to the economic, social and physical well-being of women and girls by encouraging co-production among researchers, community residents and practitioners.

PPS provides safety tips on personal tracking devices

Personal tracking devices are newer technology devices that are intended to be placed in or on items and track their movements — such as cell phones or keys. They are small and discreet — often difficult to notice. Their intention is for personal device tracking and safety purposes, but there is an increase nationwide in criminal activity reported through the improper use of PTDs. Here are a few tips from the Police and Public Safety Office to remain safe.

FM’s Danny Abril has died

Belton “Danny “Abril, who joined the University in October 2022 as the manager for the electrical shops in the Facilities Management Department, died Nov. 16.

Prior to UNC Charlotte, Abril worked in private industry from more than 30 years. A native of Ecuador, he and his family relocated to Charlotte from California. He was an expert in low voltage systems, was certified as a Lutron lighting programmer and had a lengthy background in project management.

Final arrangements are pending.

HR releases 2023, 2024 holiday schedules

UNC Charlotte offers eligible employees 12 paid holidays each calendar year, and the Human Resources Department publishes the approved holiday schedule annually.

Meet Mike Reynolds

A native New Yorker, Officer Mike Reynolds began his law enforcement career with the New York Police Department in 1986. His many memories with the NYPD include being a first responder to the World Trade Center in 2001, making detective and retiring after 20 years of service. Upon relocation to Charlotte, he served 12 years with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Now, as a member of Niner Nation, Reynolds is among the many who make UNC Charlotte a great place to live, study and work.

OASES updates name for better alignment with services

The Office of Adult Student and Evening Services, better known as “OASES,” is updating its name to better reflect its services to the University. 

Starting this week, OASES now stands for the Office of Adult Students and Extended Services. This change reflects the office’s continued focus on serving UNC Charlotte’s adult student population through expanded services for students. 

University’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter co-hosting reception

The UNC Charlotte Office of Academic Affairs and the University’s chapter of the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi will hold a reception for faculty and staff from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, in the Atkins Library Halton Reading Room. Complimentary food and beverages will be provided.
