Nominations sought for 2021 Employee of the Year awards

Every year, UNC Charlotte awards and recognizes exemplary employees for their hard work and dedication to the campus community and beyond. In a year unlike any other, the Human Resources Department is asking employees to nominate their teammates, colleagues, those they supervise and other University employees for the 2021 Staff Employee of the Year awards.

The Dean of Students Office is seeking nominations for the following awards: Bonnie Cone Leadership Award, Noble Niner Award, Chuck Lynch Award and the Chancellor’s Citations for Leadership and Service.These honors recognize students who have made significant contributions to UNC Charlotte during their undergraduate careers and are given annually to graduating seniors who have shown outstanding qualities of scholarship and leadership.

Safford needs shared leave

Laron Safford, Student Activity Center and Venue Management, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through Feb. 22.To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207. HRL staff member Anthony Holder has died

Anthony Holder, a support services associate with Housing and Residence Life, died Jan. 19, 2021.A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30, at Resurrection Life Community Church, 9115 Newell Baptist Church Rd. in Charlotte. There will be a visitation at noon followed by a private service at 1 p.m.  Masks and social distancing guidelines will be observed. The celebration will be streamed on the Resurrection Life Community Church Facebook page.

UNC 403(b) Plan Universal Availability Notice for 2021

The University of North Carolina offers a choice of voluntary supplemental retirement programs so employees can save additional amounts for retirement. Under The University of North Carolina Section 403(b) Plan (“the 403(b) Plan”), eligible employees may elect to defer a portion of their compensation to the 403(b) Plan on a pre-tax or post-tax (Roth) basis.

UNC Charlotte has launched a new learning management system, the Learning and Development Portal. Partnering with Cornerstone On Demand, a leading global provider of talent management software, the University has implemented a robust system to further develop, engage and retain top talent.

Founding director of Ethics Center mourned

Bonnie E. Cone Distinguished Professor of Teaching Emeritus John Lincourt died Dec. 14, 2020, at the age of 79. Described as a gifted teacher dedicated to helping students grasp complex concepts, Lincourt was a faculty member in the UNC Charlotte Department of Philosophy for 33 years until his retirement in 2006.

CLAS mourns death of Religious Studies professor emeritus

Jeffrey Meyer, Ph.D., professor emeritus in the Department of Religious Studies, died at his Davidson home on Dec. 17 at the age of 82. He retired from UNC Charlotte in 2008 after teaching in the department for 35 years, with a focus on Asian religions.
