Faculty and Staff Social scheduled

Faculty and staff members can join colleagues for socializing and networking at a Faculty and Staff Social, which will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Harris Alumni Center at Johnson Glen.Sponsored by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois, the social will feature light hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer and soft drinks. RSVPs requested.

Register for 2019 Engaged Scholarship Symposium

UNC Charlotte’s Engaged Scholarship Symposium will convene faculty, staff, students and community partners to discuss community engagement practices. This symposium is designed to facilitate creative collaboration across academic units, colleges and departments; to outline best practices and address challenges; and strengthen partnerships.

Condensing research for a three-minute pitch

During the annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, graduate students have to summarize extensive and complex research or scholarship into a brief, compelling presentation that anyone can understand—in three minutes.This year’s event will be at 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15, in Atkins Library, Halton Reading Room. Attendees will be able to vote for their favorite presenters alongside the panel of judges.

Cato College dean accepts Tennessee job

Ellen McIntyre, dean of the Cato College of Education, has been named the dean of the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at the University of Tennessee, effective Jan. 21.Prior to joining UNC Charlotte in 2013, McIntyre was interim associate dean for academic affairs at N.C. State University, department chair of elementary education at N.C. State and professor and University Scholar at the University of Louisville.

Lane closures scheduled for asphalt repairs

On Friday, Oct. 25, there will be lane closures on Craver Road near the Popp Martin Student Union and Phillips Road near Hayes Stadium to repair asphalt.Expect flaggers to assist with traffic diversion and paving equipment and personnel at these sites.

Giving Green campaign reaches new highs

A record number of Giving Green donors enabled this year’s fundraising drive for the Arts & Science Council and the UNC Charlotte Foundation to bring in $266,867 from faculty and staff.

Campus partnerships result in successful Sustainability Week

Sustainability Week is an annual observance that marked its sixth year earlier this month. Organizers noted the support of units across campus resulted in a successful effort. For Chartwells, the University food service provider, there are benefits to partnering with the Office of Sustainability on the transportation fair and other sustainability events.
