Open enrollment underway through Oct. 31
UNC Charlotte employees who are eligible for benefits have until Wednesday, Oct. 31, to make selections for 2019 insurance coverage and other benefits during open enrollment.
A few highlights:
Police conducting on-campus training Saturday, Oct. 6
The UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety (PPS) Department will conduct on-campus training from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, in the old Facilities Operations and Parking Services Building on Craver Road.
During this time, individuals in the area may hear loud noises and see an increased police presence, including officers in tactical gear. This is part of routine training conducted by PPS.
2019 holiday schedule released
The Human Resources Department publishes the approved holiday schedule annually. The 2019 schedule is:

Lot 25 closed temporarily
Parking Lot 25 will be closed Friday, Oct. 5, through Tuesday, Oct. 9, for maintenance. Expect construction and paving equipment.
Remember to exercise caution when approaching construction zones.
Broome needs shared leave
Mary Broome, University Recreation, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through Oct. 11.
To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207. Open enrollment kickoff event scheduled
This year, in lieu of the annual Benefits Fair, the Benefits Office and the Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness (ACCEHW) will host an Open Enrollment Kickoff Event from 9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons.
Light refreshments will be provided. Representatives from the ACCEHW, Benefits Office, NC Flex Benefits, ComPsych Guidance Resources, Kinesiology Department, FastMed and others will attend.
Graduate School to hold enrollment info session for employees
The Graduate School will conduct an information session for employees who hold bachelor’s degrees and who are interested in advanced studies.
This information session, scheduled for noon to 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, in Cato Hall, will cover the application process; enrollment counselors can answer questions about various programs. Information about tuition waivers for employees and free textbook rental programs will be available, too.
Food, fun and philanthropy are part of Fall Festival
Display Niner pride and enjoy the camaraderie of colleagues at this year’s Staff Council Fall Festival, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.
The festival is a free event; however, staff members should bring their UNC Charlotte ID for the luncheon.
Construction to close one entrance to Macy Building
The Macy Building entrance that faces Belk Plaza will be closed through Friday, Oct. 26, for construction to rework the entrance to match the new Winningham Building one and to install additional storm water lines as part of the Academic Complex Renovation project.
Expect fencing around the entrance, heavy construction equipment and noise prior to classes beginning each day.
Faculty, staff and students should use entrances in the courtyard and breezeway.
