Nominate a student for annual awards/honors

The Dean of Students Office is seeking nominations from faculty, staff or students for the Chancellor’s Citations for Leadership and Service and the Bonnie Cone Leadership, Noble Niner, Chuck Lynch and Derrick Griffith Servant Leader awards.

Memorial service planned for Harvey Murphy

Harvey Murphy, chair emeritus of the Kinesiology Department, died Feb. 5, 2018. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, at Holy Covenant United Church of Christ.

According to the College of Health and Human Services, Murphy spent 31 years at the University, and he helped guide the institution’s growth while serving as s interim men’s basketball coach from 1965 to 1970 and athletics director from 1965 to 1972.

Suspects apprehended in on-campus armed robbery

At approximately 6 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, two of the three suspects in a reported armed robbery on campus were apprehended by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).  The third suspect was arrested a short time later.

Earlier that morning, at 1:42 a.m., UNC Charlotte dispatch received a blue light notification that two students had been robbed behind the Popp Martin Student Union. No injuries were reported.

Belk Plaza construction to begin

Beginning Monday, Feb. 12, the perimeter of Belk Plaza will be fenced off as renovations to this area commence. A section of sidewalk will be closed between the plaza and the east side of the Atkins Library; pedestrians will be rerouted around the plaza perimeter. Work to transform Belk Plaza is expected to continue through Tuesday, June 12.

University competing in RecycleMania

UNC Charlotte again is participating in RecycleMania, a competition designed to promoted waste reduction at colleges and universities across the United States and Canada.

This year’s contest is Feb. 4 through March 31; the University’s Sustainability and Recycling teams are facilitating UNC Charlotte’s participation.  

Info session about BRIDGES leadership program for women scheduled

The BRIDGES Academic Leadership Program offers UNC Charlotte female faculty and staff members the opportunity to develop and strengthen their leadership skills, knowledge and networking to be successful change agents in their communities.

To learn more about this unique leadership program and hear from past participants, attend the BRIDGES information session scheduled for 2:30 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the Cone University Center, Room 208.

Policy on flexible work, teleworking revised

On Jan.30, University Policy 101.22, Flexible Work and Telework Arrangements for SHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty Employees, was revised to clarify restrictions on teleworking during leave covered under FMLA and teleworking arrangements out-of-state.

Direct deposit of pay policy revised

On Jan. 30, University Policy 602.1, Direct Deposit of Pay, was revised to add new provisions related to procedures during a Condition 2 or Condition 3 event for those employees who are not signed up for direct deposit.

UNC 403(b) Plan Universal Availability Notice for 2018

The University of North Carolina offers a choice of voluntary supplemental retirement programs so employees can save additional amounts for retirement. Under The University of North Carolina Section 403(b) Plan (“the 403(b) Plan”), eligible employees may elect to defer a portion of their compensation to the 403(b) Plan on a pre-tax or post-tax (Roth) basis.

Use P-card for bookstore purchases

Barnes & Noble at UNC Charlotte is a convenient place to purchase many items, from books to promotional objects. The Internal Audit Department recommends using a departmental P-card to make purchases on behalf of the University.

Internal Audit notes that P-card usage will ensure that goods are correctly charged to the purchasing department or unit and prevent unauthorized users from charging purchases to departments where they are not approved to make purchases.
