Top chili, cornbread chefs sought for annual contest
The UNC Charlotte Staff Council annual Chili and Cornbread Cook-Off will be Thursday, Feb. 15, in the Cone University Center, Lucas Room.
Faculty and staff members can stop in between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to vote for their favorite chili recipe.
Contestants will vie to be named among the top three chili chefs; winners of fan favorite, best cornbread and best table decorations will be named, too.
Code of Student Responsibility policy revised
University Policy 406, The Code of Student Responsibility, was revised to account for recent changes in the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR) guidance regarding Title IX cases.
Volunteers needed for NCAA men’s basketball tournament
The Charlotte 49ers have a rich history as hosts for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. This year, the 49ers will work with the city of Charlotte and Spectrum Arena to provide the best experience possible for participants and attendees to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball First and Second Rounds in March.

Globetrotters to play in Halton Arena
Tickets are on sale now for the Harlem Globetrotters “Amazing Feats of Basketball World Tour,” which comes to Halton Arena, Saturday, March 24. Two games are scheduled for 2 and 7 p.m.
The Harlem Globetrotters will face a revamped Washington Generals team that launched a more competitive profile during summer 2017. The new tournament-tested team is looking to snap a 47-year losing streak against its world-famous rivals.
Public Health Sciences lecturer Camina Davis dies
Camina Davis, a lecturer in the Department of Public Health Sciences since fall 2007, died Sunday, Jan. 14, after an extended illness.
Davis, who also was a graduate of the department’s Master of Science in Health Promotion program, was honored recently by the North Carolina Association for the Advancement of Health Education with its Distinguished Friends of Health Education Award.
Colleagues noted that Davis’ work inspired countless undergraduate students to pursue careers in public health and to make improving community health central to those careers.
Hibbs to be inducted into Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame
Charlotte baseball head coach Loren Hibbs will be one of six individuals to be inducted into the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame. Hibbs, a 1984 graduate of Wichita State, is set to begin his 26th season as the Charlotte 49ers skipper in February.
“What a tremendous honor,” began Hibbs. “It is always great to be recognized for your achievements. Not only for the accomplishments during my time playing and coaching at Wichita State but also for the caliber of the program we have built and maintained here at Charlotte.”
Paving repairs to close parts of Phillips Road
Paving repairs along Phillips Road are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 15, starting at 11 a.m. Expect traffic delays and heavy construction equipment and workers in the area.
The Niner Transit Silver Line will not make stops on the CRI portion of campus between noon and 5 p.m.; buses will stop at the gate 1 loop at Richardson Stadium.
Between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Phillips Road will be one lane with flaggers on each side to direct traffic. Afterward, until 4 p.m., there will be a detour through Parking Lot 23.
Temporary lane closure scheduled near Wallis Hall
On Monday, Jan. 15 (weather permitting), a temporary closure will affect the eastbound lane of Cameron Boulevard in front of Wallis Hall. Workers will be patching asphalt.
Flaggers will maintain two-way traffic using a single lane between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Exercise caution when approaching construction zones.
