Wind Ensemble to perform
The UNC Charlotte Wind Ensemble will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25, in the Belk Theater of Robinson Hall.The ensemble, under the direction of Shawn Smith, will present a program that includes “Process of Nobles,” “Only Light, Only Love” and “The Bicycle Shop” and other selections.Tickets are $8. University Chorale to present holiday concert
The University Chorale will perform a holiday concert on Monday, Dec. 2, under the direction of guest conductor Ginger Wyrick. The program features selections from Handel’s “Messiah” including the ever-popular “Hallelujah” chorus.
Honors College event aims to destigmatize failure
The Honors College is hosting its inaugural “Failure Showcase” from 3 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.This event is designed to destigmatize failure and empower students to grow. According to organizers, discussing failure in an open and acceptable manner demonstrates to students that failure is a necessary part of success.

Scholarship to honor trailblazing professor
Theresa Perez, professor emerita, Department of Middle, Secondary and K-12 Education, lived her life as a champion for social justice. At UNC Charlotte, Perez displayed a spirit that nurtured and developed the Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) program. She knew it would be an important factor in improving the lives of immigrant families in the community.

Mock Dorm Room Burn event scheduled
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Fire and Safety Technologists (FAST), a student organization that focuses on educating the public about fire safety, will host a Mock Dorm Room Burn demonstration and fire safety fair at noon, Thursday, Nov. 21. The event will take place on Recreation Field 14A, across from Robinson Hall.Students from FAST began building the mock dorm rooms on Thursday, Nov. 14. The rooms will include everyday household items such as chairs, couches, posters and bedding similar to what students have in their residence halls or apartments.
Historian’s book chosen for new publishing imprint
A book by UNC Charlotte history professor Karen Cox about Confederate monuments is one of the first four books under contract in the newly created Marcie Cohen Ferris and William R. Ferris Imprint for high-profile, general-interest books about the American South.
University’s student voter engagement effort earns Silver Seal
At the 2019 ALL IN Challenge awards ceremony recognizing colleges and universities committed to increasing college student voting rates, UNC Charlotte received a silver seal for achieving a student rate between 30 and 39 percent.
