CLAS teaching excellence honorees use interactive methods to engage students
Jennifer Munroe, Sarah Pollock and Lane Rhodes recently received the 2018-19 Excellence in Teaching Awards presented by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS). The three were lauded for the innovative ways they challenge and engage students, including through research opportunities, interactive lectures and real-time projects.

In recognition of his 33 years of service to UNC Charlotte, Wayne Maikranz, director of Student Niner Media, was honored with the establishment of a student media award in his name.
Teachers to illuminate the art and chemistry of light
The Charlotte Teachers Institute is sponsoring the community event “The Art and Chemistry of Light” on Tuesday, May 21, at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.
This “Teachers as Scholars” event will feature presentations and discussions with local educators who studied the topic together in a 2018 Charlotte Teachers Institute (CTI) seminar, including UNC Charlotte chemistry professor Tom Schmedake and 11 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teachers.

Retiring faculty recognized for 318 years of combined service
On April 25, 10 outstanding faculty members were honored for their service to UNC Charlotte as they join the ranks of retirees. Their combined 318 years of service range from 12 to 48 years.
Chancellor Philip L. Dubois, who presided over the program at the Harris Alumni Center at Johnson Glen, offered recollections about each retiree. He noted that a few of the honorees have helped to write more than half of the University’s story.
