Pier Forlano, the consul general of Italy in Philadelphia, will discuss “The Fundamentals and Excellence of the Italian Economy” at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Popp-Martin Student Union Movie Theater.
Judaism scholar to give Tate Lecture
Eva Mroczek, an associate professor of religious studies at the University of California, Davis, will deliver the 2019 Alice Tate Lecture in Judaic Studies. Her presentation, “Out of the Caves: Manuscript Discovery and New Biblical Pasts,” is scheduled for 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 21, in the Rowe Arts Building, Room 130.In her lecture, Mroczek will discuss how tales of hidden knowledge and new biblical pasts challenge assumptions about what scripture and tradition means in Jewish literature and beyond.

49erNext, an initiative between UNC Charlotte and Central Piedmont Community College announced today at UNC Charlotte Center City, will create a seamless pathway for individuals who want to start a degree at the two-year institution and complete it at UNC Charlotte.

Nursing School director to lead statewide council
Dena Evans, director of the UNC Charlotte School of Nursing, has been elected president of North Carolina Council of Higher Education.Evans was selected for a two-year term as leader of the organization composed of deans and directors from Schools of Nursing in North Carolina. She will begin her term July 1, 2020.

Planning for the second annual TEDxUNCCharlotte, an independently organized live TEDx event, has begun.During TEDxUNCCharlotte 2020, scheduled for March 27, speakers will present ideas that center around the theme “Thinking Future. Thinking Forward.”The online speaker application is available on the TEDxUNCCharlotte website and is open to all students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. The deadline to apply is Thursday, Oct. 31, by 11:59 p.m.

Civic engagement and education go hand-in-hand, and one important aspect of shaping American society is through the ballot box.UNC Charlotte Votes, a student-led, nonpartisan initiative that is part of the 49er Democracy Experience, is sponsoring Voter Registration Thursdays on Oct. 3 and 10. Members of the campus community are encouraged to stop by Atkins Library between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to learn more about the voting process and drop off their printed and signed TurboVote voter registration form.
