New Jersey City University administrator serving as ACE Fellow

The American Council on Education (ACE) Fellows Program is considered the premier leadership development initiative to prepare senior leaders to serve U.S. colleges and universities.

Karen Morgan, from New Jersey City University, is spending the 2018-19 academic year at UNC Charlotte as an ACE Fellow.

Sociologist to address ‘The Troubling Rise of For-Profit Colleges’

A sociologist with a national best-selling book detailing the rise of for-profit colleges, growing debts from student loans and their impact on social inequality will give a public talk on Thursday, Oct. 18.

Tressie McMillan Cottom, an award-winning author and assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, will speak on her book, “Lower Ed:  The Troubling Rise of For-Profit Colleges in the New Economy,” at 7 p.m. in Cone University Center’s After Hours Lounge.

International Festival – all are welcome to this global celebration

During Saturday’s International Festival, the Office of International Programs will spread the message via video and social media that international students are welcome at UNC Charlotte. The University is among a number of higher education institutions in the United States participating in the social media awareness campaign #YouAreWelcomeHere; the effort is designed to affirm that participating institutions are diverse, friendly, safe and committed to student development.

The Charlotte Teachers Institute will host an “Evening for Educators” from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Discovery Place Education Studio.

A ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 25, held at Area 49 on the library’s second floor, marked its introduction to campus.

Make big things happen for 49ers, by participating in this year’s #NinerNationGives. The fourth annual 49-hour digital fundraising event kicks off Wednesday, Sept. 26, and goes through 9 a.m., Friday, Sept. 28.

UNC Charlotte helping with Hurricane Florence relief efforts

From the loss of lives to the loss of property, Hurricane Florence has devastated the Carolinas. It will not be easy for storm victims in North and South Carolina to rebuild their lives, and they will deal with the hurricane’s effects for some time.

UNC Charlotte is organizing various collection drives to assist those impacted by the storm.

She’s driven in part because of her responsibility as the associate director of community relations and also because of her own experiences in life.
