Annual ‘Move Out’ promotes sustainable behaviors
Toward the end of the academic year, as students prepared to depart residence halls for home, the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling implemented operation “Move Out.”

Charlotte Islamic Academy lauds professor’s classroom consulting
A multi-year effort by Department of Educational Leadership Professor Debra Morris has significantly improved instruction and faculty development at the Charlotte Islamic Academy, according to that organization’s leadership.
The academy contacted Morris in 2012 to seek help with classroom observation and professional development. In the years since, she has led efforts to set up a beginning teacher’s support program and assisted the school in establishing a relationship with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to facilitate teacher licensure.

Walton to serve as interim associate provost
Curt Walton is interim associate provost for Metropolitan Studies and Extended Academic Programs. In addition to this role, he will continue to serve as executive-in-residence with teaching and advising responsibilities in the Master of Public Administration program and as liaison with the city of Charlotte, University City Partners and the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority.

Internal audit’s journey of lifelong learning
Universities are more integrated, more interdependent and more diverse than ever, while internal audit is tasked with doing more with less. All of these factors create significant challenges for traditional internal audit operating models. Meeting management’s expectations in this dynamic environment requires a new mindset. Social sustainability event focuses on communities and connections
A network of people from varied walks of life will gather in Charlotte and other U.S. and U.K. cities Wednesday, June 8, through Friday, June 10, to delve into transportation, connections with the natural world, the value of human well-being and security and social and physical mobility.
These topics and more comprise the fourth annual conference of the Integrated Network for Social Sustainability (INSS). With a theme of “Communities and Connections,” the conference is open to the public at no charge, but registrations are requested.

Architecture students aiding local preschool
Students in the School of Architecture’s AIAS “Freedom by Design” chapter recently completed the first of a two-phase project at the Cabarrus Bilingual Preschool, run by Families First in Cabarrus County, a nonprofit organization that serves low-income families through bilingual (Spanish and English) programs for children and parents.
The finished phase of the project includes a privacy fence weave of colorful nylon strips woven through the existing chain link fence, a series of interactive wooden panels attached to the fence and a large gardening area.

Voice professor to compete in international Bach Festival
Carl DuPont, assistant professor of voice, will compete in the 20th International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition, which will take place in Leipzig, Germany, July 4-16. This competition is held in the categories of voice, organ and cello/Baroque cello and consists of four competitive rounds in each category. Participants were chosen in a juried pre-selection process this spring.

Projective Eye Gallery to present ‘Digital Dialogues’
The Projective Eye Gallery at UNC Charlotte Center City will present “Digital Dialogues,” two multimedia installations that incorporate full-scale digital fabrication with a touch of the hand and a topographic perspective. Newly formed collaborative teams of College of Arts + Architecture professors and students have expanded the creative process, removing the control of the solely autonomous artist.

Longtime University benefactor Cliff Cameron dies
The UNC Charlotte community is mourning the death of Charles C. “Cliff” Cameron, 96, a longtime and dedicated supporter of the University.
Cameron’s service to the University began in 1967, when he became a member of the board of directors of the UNC Charlotte Foundation.
“It is impossible to measure the impact that Cliff Cameron made on UNC Charlotte and the whole University City region,” said Chancellor Philip L. Dubois.

FM automotive team among top motor fleets
The automotive team in the Facilities Management Department recently received honorable mention as one of the top motor fleets in the Americas by 100 Best Fleets in the Americas.
The organization, founded by Tom Johnson, is part of the 100 Best Fleets Program. He noted, “To me, you are unsung heroes … Your efforts are having an immediate and impressive effect on the economy. To put it in perspective, there are over 38,000 public fleets in North America alone and thousands more in South America.”
