Connaughton forecasts sixth consecutive year of growth for N.C. economy
The North Carolina economy is expected to experience its sixth consecutive year of economic growth in 2015, UNC Charlotte economist John Connaughton reported March 11 in his quarterly forecast for the state.
N.C. Gross State Product (GSP) is forecasted to record an annualized real growth rate of 3.0 percent over the 2014 level. The 3.0 percent growth expected in 2015 will mark the first year since 2006 that the state’s economy grew by at least 3.0 percent.

Ongoing evaluations, separate evaluations or some combination of the two are monitoring activities used to determine whether each of the five components of internal control, including controls to affect the principles within each component, is present and functioning.
Erevelles, King to guest on March 12 ‘Live Wire’
Sunil Erevelles, chair of the Marketing Department in the Belk College of Business, and Dolly King, chair of the Department of Finance and the Rush Dickson Professor of Finance in the Belk College of Business, will be the guests on the March 12 edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast. Erevelles will discuss the Marketing Department and an executive education session in March on innovation.
McKinley wins award for best book on S.C. history
Historian Shepherd McKinley’s book “Stinking Stones and Rocks of Gold: Phosphate, Fertilizer and Industrialization in Postbellum South Carolina” was named the winner of the South Carolina Historical Society’s 2014 George Rogers Jr. Book Award as the best book about South Carolina history published last year.

Clay Andrews is the assistant director for corporate partnerships at the Charlotte Research Institute; he joined the University March 2.
Connolly to talk on slavery and children’s literature for Personally Speaking
Paula Connolly, associate professor of English, will discuss her work “Slavery in American Children’s Literature, 1790-2010” at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, at the J. Murrey Atkins Library. This talk is part of the Personally Speaking series, presented by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and the library.
“Slavery in American Children’s Literature, 1790-2010” is considered the first comprehensive study of its kind. The work examines the politicizing nature of children’s literature and explores how political ideologies intersect childhood with nationhood.
Estate planning brown bag scheduled
The UNC Charlotte Continuing Education Office is sponsoring “Estate Planning: Getting Your House in Order” from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, March 19, at UNC Charlotte Center City. Part of the office’s Brown Bag Series, this event is free, but advanced registration is required.
