CLAS faculty earn college awards for teaching excellence

For their exceptional teaching and student engagement, Paola Lopez-Duarte, Samantha Suptela and Lennin Caro are recipients of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences’ 2023 Excellence in Teaching Awards. Six other faculty were honored as finalists for the three awards.

2023 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program awards announced

Two current UNC Charlotte students and two alumni have received a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) award.Megan Mitchem ’21, a Ph.D. student in biological sciences, will continue working in the Truman Lab on campus, using her NSF GRFP award to study the link between post-translational modification of the molecular chaperone Hsp70 and cellular metabolism.

Professor of Digital Media Heather Freeman was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to produce the podcast, “Magic in the United States: 400 Years of Magical Beliefs, Practices and Cultural Conflicts.”

UNC Charlotte Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber and several University alumni and board members are on the 2023 Business North Carolina Power List. 

Gaber, recognized for the third consecutive year in the education category, told the publication her biggest inspiration has been her mom. “She was a hard-working, single parent who encouraged and believed in me.”
