49ers explode in inaugural season fnale with 61-17 win at Morehead State
The 49ers 61-17 win at Morehead State (3-9) in the final game of the inaugural season had highlight upon highlight for the first-year program.
Charlotte (5-6) scored on runs of 70 yards, 68 yards, 50 yards and 51 yards, connected on a TD pass of 33 yards and had a 70-yard interception return on their way to the season-ending victory. Two touchdown drives were one-play strikes. Two others were two plays. Those four touchdowns came in a combined 81 seconds.
‘The Misunderstood Jew’ focus of annual Tate Lecture
In the 16th annual Alice Tate Lecture in Judaic Studies, Amy-Jill Levine of Vanderbilt University will talk on “The Misunderstood Jew: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus.” This free, community talk will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Myers Park Presbyterian Church.
The lecture will consider how Christians have misunderstood Judaism and the “Jewish” Jesus, while Jews often remain ignorant of Jesus and his messages set in its original Jewish historical contexts.
Men’s soccer ranks nationally for attendance
The Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer team led Conference USA in home attendance during the regular season, and nationally, the 49ers ranked 12th for accumulated attendance and 14th in average attendance.
Charlotte’s largest crowd this season was against Wake Forest on Oct. 1 with 2,872 in attendance. In Conference USA play, Charlotte’s largest crowd was against South Carolina on Sept. 27 with 2,516. The match against Wake Forest tied for third on the all-time attendance list while South Carolina ranks sixth.
Display to focus on ‘Murmurs on the Other Side of Light’
The Projective Eye Gallery, located in UNC Charlotte Center City, will present “Murmurs on the Other Side of Light,” surreal paintings of the life of the shadow by Guyanese artist Stanley Greaves from Friday, Nov. 22, through Friday, Jan. 3. An opening reception for the exhibit will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23.
Graduate School to host commencement dinner
The Graduate School will hold its Winter Commencement Dinner for the 2013 graduating doctoral class at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12.
Summer I, II and Fall graduating doctoral students and advisors of graduating doctoral students are requested to register to attend this event. RSVPs should be submitted by Friday, Dec. 6.
First dance marathon benefits Levine Children’s Hospital
UNC Charlotte students started dancing at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and stayed on their feet for 12 hours to celebrate raising $35,066.25 for the Levine Childen’s Hospital.
The 49er Dance Mine, held this past weekend in the Student Union, was the first of its kind at UNC Charlotte; it was part of a national movement in which colleges and universities across the country generate financial support for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in their communities.

Step Afrika! to perform on campus
The group Step Afrika! will perform at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22, in the Student Union Multipurpose Room.
A professional stepping company, Step Afrika! blends dance styles practiced by historically African American fraternities and sororities, African traditional dance and other dance and art forms. Through these dances, Step Afrika! promotes stepping as an educational tool for young people, focusing on teamwork, academic achievement and cross-cultural understanding.
Clark receives Governor’s Award for Excellence
Director of Classroom Support Steve Clark has been called a one-of-a-kind thinker and an innovator in his job at UNC Charlotte. He can add recipient of the Governor’s Award for Excellence to his resume.
