University to host regional Multicultural Leadership Conference
UNC Charlotte’s 11th annual Multicultural Leadership Conference is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Cone University Center.
The conference attracts nearly 250 students from the Southeast to explore diversity and leadership. Workshops are led by graduate students, staff members, faculty and advisors from UNC Charlotte and visiting universities. Registration is $20 for UNC Charlotte students and $75 for non-UNC Charlotte students open now through the date of the conference.
This year’s conference theme is “Conducting in Color: A Rhapsody of Diversity” and will focus on engaging participants on how to design and conduct their lives with openness and awareness of multicultural issues. Keynote sessions, breakout sessions of six to seven workshops and one all-conference workshop round out the day. Workshop topics focus on themes of leadership, social justice, opportunity and inclusion.
“We’re very excited this year about our all-conference closing workshop,” said Regena Brown, assistant director for student 0rganizations in the Multicultural Resource Center, which is cosponsoring the event in conjunction with the Center for Leadership Development. “It features Leading to Change’s ‘The Rhythm of Diversity: Beatz, Rhymez and the Power of Difference.’ The workshop is interactive and participants will use special percussion instruments while discovering and learning various beats and rhythms that can guide their personal experiences and connections to others.”
