Jeremiah Dew to bring one-man show to campus
As part of the University’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Jeremiah Dew will perform his one-man show “One Voice: A Black History Narrative” at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17,in the Student Union Multipurpose Room.
In this free, public performance, Dew will take the audience on a journey through the black American experience. He will portray several historic American figures, including Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali, Bill Cosby and Barack Obama. In addition to a narrative that spans the 1820s to the present, the show will use video footage to tie chapters and voices together for the audience as it travels a timeline of struggle, heartache, breakthrough and achievement.
According to Dew, the intent is for the show to be poignant, affective and challenging. “I hope what the audience gets is a sense of the accomplishments of the black American and the history of our country. The hopes people have in common have nothing to do with skin color and race; we all want to live in a free society and to live in a place where we’re judged by the content of our character.”
An emcee, storyteller, entertainer, producer and host, Dew has entertained more than two million people at live events; he is the owner of the multimedia company Gamemaster Entertainment.
