Clothesline Project promotes awareness of relationship violence
October is Relationship Violence Awareness Month, and the University’s is sponsoring its annual Clothesline Project to raise awareness. Members of the campus community will have the chance to paint T-shirts with powerful messages relating to relationship and domestic violence from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Belk Tower.
Women’s Programs and the Center for Wellness Promotion are sponsoring this event, which is open to all students and faculty. Paint and shirts will be provided.
Princess King, assistant director for minority student support and women’s programs, encourages students and faculty to show their support for the program. “It can be very helpful to victims of relationship or domestic violence because it can be very empowering and therapeutic.”
King said the main message of the Center for Wellness Promotion and Women’s Programs is “we care.” She added,“When there is a cause such as this, students and faculty come together to show their support and alliance. The Clothesline Project has become an annual event for Relationship Violence Awareness Month because it’s in your face. It’s a testimony from UNC Charlotte students, which speaks a lot to the reality of domestic and relationship violence.”
