CRI Deck 1 receives Award of Merit

The CRI Deck 1, the University’s largest single parking structure, received an Award of Merit from the Carolinas Parking Association Awards of Excellence competition.
The first four-bay deck on campus, the CRI Deck 1 has 1,343 parking spaces. Features include induction lighting, white-stained ceilings, integrated bicycle lockers, RFID-operated gates, a bus pull-off area and visitor parking with two pay-on-foot kiosks. It also is pre-wired to accommodate electric vehicle chargers.
The structure is cast-in-place with precast exterior designed to match the University’s Morrocroft red brick standard. Designed with football in mind, the deck has an ADA-accessible path to Richardson Stadium.
The University shares the award with LS3P, the architect of record; Carl Walker Inc., parking/structural consultant; the firm LandDesign; and construction company J.E. Dunn.
Keith Wassum, associate vice chancellor for business affairs; Gary Caton, director of parking and transportation services; Nancy Smith, parking operations manager; Rick Ellis, project manager, facilities management; and Jen Evans, construction manager, facilities management, comprised the University project team for the CRI Deck 1.
