Registration under way for Undergraduate Research Conference

Tuesday, April 1, is the deadline for submissions for the Undergraduate Research Conference, scheduled for Friday, April 25, at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

In its third year, the Undergraduate Research Conference showcases projects being completed by undergraduates from all levels and from all colleges/departments. The Office of Academic Affairs, Atkins Library and new this year, the Levine Scholars Program, are cosponsoring this event.

Faculty members are encouraged to promote the conference to their students. The work presented can range from in-class projects to year-long honors theses and everything in between. Students can present their work in poster or oral formats, individually (oral or poster) or in groups (poster). Both formats are judged during the conference, and general prizes will be awarded by discipline.

This year, the Levine Scholar Programs’ annual sustainability conference will be part of the Undergraduate Research Conference (URC).

“As an effort to highlight UNC Charlotte’s commitment to research related to sustainability, the URC will offer an additional award competition for all students whose research is related to sustainability,” stated Martha Eppes, URC chair.

In addition to departmental awards, Honors College and sustainability awards, students will have an optional opportunity to apply for an Atkins Library Undergraduate Research Award. Five awards of $1,000 will be given in following categories:

  • Arts/Architecture/Humanities
  • Social Sciences/Education
  • Physical Sciences/Engineering
  • Biological Sciences/Health Sciences
  • Math/Computer Sciences

Exhibitor booths will be a new component for this year’s conference. Campus groups are invited to host informational booths about their organizations and provide information about the research or other academic potential that the organization offers. Eligible groups are UNC Charlotte organizations, both student-run and University-run, whose missions have relevance to promoting undergraduate research and/or scholarship.
