Students finish among tops at national billiard, table tennis tournaments
UNC Charlotte students demonstrated their skills at the annual Association of College Unions International billiard and table tennis tournaments.
“Our students represented UNC Charlotte with excellence in competition and sportsmanship,” said James Contratto, assistant director of student activities for weekend programs.
In the men’s 9-ball billiards competition, UNC Charlotte’s David Anderson took second place among a field of 50 players.
Alexander Hohl and Nikhil Dahake won first and third place men’s singles, respectively, in table tennis. UNC Charlotte also finished second in the doubles tournament.
Thirteen UNC Charlotte students qualified for the national tournament through ACUI sectional or independent qualifying tournaments held throughout the spring semester. Contratto and UNC Charlotte Staff Council President Jim Kay, who advises the Pool Club and Table Tennis Club, accompanied the competitors to the nationals.
Tournament players voted on the Sportsmanship Award. Men’s table tennis competitor Andy Nguyen and men’s 9-ball player Cody Terry received this year’s award. This is the second consecutive year a UNC Charlotte student has received the honor.
