Steve Donai, a representative from Heroes in Recovery, recently presented a $2,500 check to support the University’s Collegiate Recovery Community. The funding was generated through proceeds from the inaugural Heroes in Recovery 6K trail race/walk held in June in Reedy Creek Park.

Debbie Insley, director of the Center for Wellness Promotion, and Carol Rose, CRC marketing specialist, accepted the donation.

“We are very grateful to Heroes in Recovery, along with the race volunteers and supporters who made this event such a success,” said Rose. “We look forward to next year’s event.”

The University’s Collegiate Recovery Community offers weekly 12-step meetings, experiential activities, peer-mentorship as well as volunteer opportunities where sober students serve their community; build friendships; develop a solid support system; and build a lifetime of fun, happy memories.

According to its website, Heroes in Recovery is a movement ignited by Foundations Recovery Network and the widespread community to eliminate the social stigma that keeps individuals with addiction and mental health issues from seeking help.
