Student Union Art Gallery displaying works by local printmaker
“Passages,” an exhibit featuring work from local printmaker Adrian Rhodes, will be displayed through Tuesday, Oct. 21, in the Student Union Art Gallery. A free reception with the artist will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25.
Artwork in the exhibit explores internal conflict as reflected in the tension between rigid structural forms and organic, intuitive mark making.
“I am interested in studio practice as a way to question-I am interested in the act of making,” said Rhodes. “I don’t try to illustrate an idea, rather I let process guide the piece and find meaning in the method used to create it.”
Rhodes graduated from Winthrop University in 2011 with a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking.
Through the incorporation of random bits of life such as feathers, bits of string, dead moths and book scraps, Rhodes blurs the line between studio and sidewalk in her art.
