Charlotte bonds on upcoming ballot to include funding for University-area projects
Three Charlotte city bonds up for vote in November, and during the early voting period, include a number of projects related to the University City area.
The bonds include $110.96 million for transportation projects, $20 million for neighborhood improvements and $15 million to build housing for low- to middle-income residents.
Bond proceeds would support a number of transportation projects, including construction of a new bridge across I-85 between University Research Park and the North Tryon Street corridor around Walmart and a second bridge over I-85 between University Research Park and University Place that would reduce traffic congestion.
Also, the bond would fund the Eastern Circumferential, a new four-lane roadway that will start at the current end of Mallard Creek Church Road and University City Boulevard and go over the Norfolk Southern tracks southward until it meets Back Creek Church Road near Rocky River Road.
Planning funds for the Cross-Charlotte Multi-use Trail are part of the transportation bonds, too. The 26-mile trail would link and upgrade several existing greenways, including Toby, Mallard and Clark’s Creek greenways.
The neighborhood improvement bonds would bring sidewalks, bike lanes and other enhancements to five areas, including Prosperity Village, located in University City.
A list of early voting locations and information about polling places are on the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections website.
