Niner Nation spirit on display for Homecoming

UNC Charlotte will celebrate Homecoming 2014 on Saturday, Oct. 25, as the 49ers take on James Madison University at noon in Richardson Stadium. The game will be broadcast on WCCB-TV in Charlotte.

A number of activities are scheduled leading up to the Homecoming game. They include:

  • Homecoming Concert featuring Chance the Rapper at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22, in Halton Arena. Musically inspired by Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar, Chicago-born hip hop artist Chance the Rapper –will bring his retro rhythms and vibrant rhymes to campus. Special guests are Sweater Beats and Young & Sick. Tickets are available online at TicketReturn.com, in person at the Halton Arena Ticket Office (Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or by phone at 704-687-4949
  • Basketball Madness, 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23, Halton Arena. Kick off the 2014 Charlotte 49ers men’s and women’s basketball season with this exciting annual event. Meet the players and coaches, learn what is new with the Sixth Man Student Section and enjoy an exciting display of talent on the court
  • Homecoming Lights Parade and Pep Rally at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24, along Craver Road in front of the Student Union. See the University streets transformed into a dazzling show of color and light as campus and community groups make their way with floats, banners and spirit attire. A pep rally in front of the Student Union will follow the parade; it will feature performances from spirit groups, food from local restaurants, music, giveaways and more. The party continues to midnight in the Student Union with the Homecoming edition of the Campus Activities Board’s Union Take Over.
  • Pre-game tailgate followed by the contest pitting the Charlotte 49ers vs. James Madison University, Saturday, Oct. 25. The game starts at noon

For alumni, there will be pre-game tailgating from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Oct. 25, at the Alumni Village tent near Craver and Cameron Roads. The Alumni Oktoberfest and After Party immediately follow the game. Visit the Alumni Association’s website for a listing of all events and to register

The Green and White Crawl at Fitzgerald’s Irish Pub will be at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24.
