Faculty and Friends series to feature Madison Park Quartet
The Department of Music Faculty and Friends Concert Series will feature the Madison Park String Quartet in a performance at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16, in Rowe Recital Hall. Led by Associate Professor of Cello Mira Frisch, the quartet includes Charlotte Symphony violinists Jenny Topilow and Kari Giles and violist Kirsten Swanson, an adjunct professor at UNC Charlotte.
The concert program will include music from the 20th and 21st centuries, opening with a new work “Poems for String Quartet” by Winthrop University professor Leonard Mark Lewis. Other works on the program will be a lovely nostalgic piece by American composer John Corigliano, inspired by a 1909 photograph of his father and uncle; a polka; two tangos; and “Two Pieces for String Quartet” by Dmitri Shostakovich, which were composed for the scandalous opera “Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District” and the Soviet ballet “The Golden Age.”
Tickets are $9 for general admission; $7 for seniors and UNC Charlotte faculty and staff; and $6 for all students and can be purchased online, at the Robinson Hall Box Office in advance of the performance, by phone at 704-687-1849 or at Rowe Recital Hall on the day of the concert.
