February academic advising workshops scheduled

The Office of Academic Services offers free workshops to University advisors on a variety of topics. Participants are requested to register online for session(s) they plan to attend; email the Office of Academic Services (academicservices@uncc.edu) with any questions.

“Using CAPP for Advising and Graduation” will be from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m., Monday, Feb. 9, in Friday Building, Room 339. Kathy Asala, undergraduate coordinator, Chemistry Department; Roy Fielding, senior lecturer, Kinesiology Department; and Elizabeth Mullis, Banner systems manager, Office of the Registrar; will facilitate this hand-on session to teach advisors how to read and interpret the CAPP degree evaluation for both major/minor requirements and general education requirements. Attendees should bring five student ID numbers as test examples.

“Advising Student with Disabilities” will be from 4 to 4:45 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, in Friday Building, Room 107. Katie Montie, assistant director of the Office of Disability Services, will lead this session that provides an overview of the legal requirements surrounding academic access for students with disabilities. Key components to be addressed include disability culture/etiquette and tips on how to ensure access through case scenarios and discussion.
