The Office of Academic Services offers free workshops to University advisors on a variety of topics. Participants are requested to register online for session(s) they plan to attend; email the Office of Academic Services (academicservices@uncc.edu) with any questions.

“Prospect for Success” will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, in Friday Building, Room 137. Developed as the Quality Enhancement Plan for UNC Charlotte, “Prospect for Success” aims to help new freshmen become engaged learners. The plan combines three learning outcomes within a first year student course: commitment to success, inquiry and cultural awareness. The assignments within the courses introduce students to campus resources and opportunities, including connections to academic planning and advising support. This session will introduce advisors to the goals of “Prospect for Success,” detail the expectations for incoming freshmen in each college and show how advisors can build on the activities found in PFS courses. Carla Eastis, assessment director, Prospect for Success, and Kristine Hopkins, director, Student Center for Professional Development, Belk College of Business, will facilitate this workshop.

“Introduction to the New Undergraduate Catalog” will be from 3 to 3:45 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, in McEniry Building, Room 118. Laurie Parker, instructional technology consultant in the Center for Teaching and Learning, will lead this session, which is meant to provide advisors with an overview of how to navigate and search the University’s new undergraduate and graduate catalogs. The session will include highlights of the new catalog layout and functionality.
