Building places with an emphasis on public health

Richard Jackson is a leading voice in the movement to build places with an emphasis on public health. This national expert recently addressed an audience of more than 200 attendees at UNC Charlotte Center City, where he discussed his ideas for a radical rethinking of the physical structure of American communities.

Jackson is the former chair of UCLA’s Environmental Health Sciences Department and director of the CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health.

The lecture was sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina and hosted by the Department of Public Health Sciences in the College of Health and Human Services. It was organized as part of an annual UNC Charlotte event coinciding with National Public Health Week.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Arts + Architecture, Integrated Network for Social Sustainability, UNC Charlotte Urban Institute and Center for Professional & Applied Ethics cosponsored the talk.
