Collegiate Recovery Community to host recovery week events
Every September National Recovery Month is observed to educate Americans that with treatment those with a mental or substance use disorder can live a healthy and rewarding life. Recovery Month celebrates the progress made by those in recovery.
The theme for Recovery Month 2015 is Join the Voices for Recovery: Visible, Vocal, Valuable! It focuses on the value of peer support in educating, mentoring and helping others. This theme invites individuals in recovery and their support systems to be catalysts for change in communities.
The Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) provides a nurturing, affirming environment in which students recovering from addictive disorders can successfully pursue academic, personal and professional goals for the purpose of enhancing their quality of life and becoming productive members of society.
The CRC events for the week of Sept. 28 to Oct. 2 are as follows:
- Monday, Sept. 28 in the Student Union – Collegiate Recovery Community Information Table
- Tuesday, Sept. 29 in the Wellness classroom in the basement of the Student Health Center from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.– screening of “Anonymous People”; a feature documentary film about the over 23 million Americans living in long-term recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs.
- Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the CRC room – celebration of recovery meeting; open to anyone celebrating their recovery.
