Lean Six Sigma White Belt Certification
Sunday, Nov. 1
Online
The White Belt program provides a brief overview of three of the most-widely used total quality management methodologies in industry today. The first half of the program covers an introduction to the Six Sigma methodology used to improve existing processes or design new processes. The second half of the program is a brief introduction to the methodology called Lean, which provides participants with the general knowledge of the terms used by practitioners in industry today.

Fraud Prevention and Detection

The focus of this course is on special areas of fraud awareness. The cornerstone is the review of fraudulent financial statement schemes, types of financial analysis and tools used to highlight the red flags of fraud and methods of preventing the occurrence of fraud.

Leadership and Communication Skills for Project Managers

Business Process Management and the Balanced Scorecard

S Corporations – Hot Tax Topics

This course covers key benefits of using Subchapter S corporations and how to acquire and maintain Subchapter S status so those benefits can be realized. Tax saving opportunities with S corporations under the Affordable Care Act are explained. The course also includes an explanation of opportunities for saving Social Security Tax and the IRS campaign to limit those savings. Finally, several tax traps will be identified, and suggestions for avoiding some of those traps will be presented.

FASB Financial Reporting Update

While the effective date of the new revenue recognition standard has been delayed one year, preparation for implementation is very important. Also, the long-discussed lease proposal as well as the financial instruments and disclosure framework projects continue to be discussed. As a minimum, there could be new exposure drafts but maybe final standards to be covered in detail. These, plus other final updates and FASB agenda items, will be the topics in this class.

Presentation and Facilitation Skills

The objective of the course is to enhance facilitation and presentation effectiveness of participants through a process identifying the fundamental skills to create and deliver a more captivating message and experience regardless of the audience. The intent is not to create facilitation and presentation clones but rather to get participants comfortable with the tools and resources that will leverage their individual strengths.

Understanding the New Revenue Recognition Standard

The new revenue recognition standard released by the FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board) last year represents a significant change in the revenue reporting model and process. Businesses of all sizes will need to consider how the new model will impact their systems, controls and reported items. This class will blend both conceptual and hands on coverage of the new standard.

Cost Estimating and Cost Management

This course explores project cost estimating and a budget planning effort for a project manager as part of the project plan and then looks at earned value and other controls as the plan unfolds. Individual and small group exercises and case studies include examples applicable to diverse industries and business sizes.

This course will provide an overview of common and specialty compensation and benefits programs found in various industries. Components of a total compensation system will be explored. Topics include: compensation and benefits compliance, common total reward systems, pay and motivation, controlling benefit costs through plan design, compensation internal and external equity, salary compression, types of compensation designs, common mistakes in reward systems and much more.

Ethics 101

This course is designed to meet the two hours of ethics training CPAs in North Carolina must receive each year in order to meet the NC Board of Examiners requirements for certificate renewal. The course will discuss pertinent accountancy law in NC as well as professional ethical issues and standards.

Excel for Engineers: Charting in Excel 2013
Wednesday, Nov. 18
8 a.m. to noon, UNC Charlotte Center City
Participants will learn the new charting techniques included with Microsoft Excel 2013 as well as the standard chart features of earlier versions of Excel. Features will include various chart types, using embedded charts versus chart sheets, adding data tables, data labels, charting from multiple sheets and working with PivotCharts.

Excel for Engineers: Data Manipulation

1 to 5 p.m., UNC Charlotte Center City
This course will offer training in the new Excel 2013 Quick Analysis features in addition to complex functions such as SUMIF and SUMIFS. Participants will learn new features added to sorting and filtering, learn to Subtotal data and build PivotTables.

Project Management for Business Analysts

For the business analyst, IT project management represents the core set of skills needed for requirements planning and management. Key topics of the course include establishing a framework for IT project management; planning and launching projects; executing and controlling projects; and closing, archiving and transitioning projects.

ASME B31 Process and Power Piping: Design and Fabrication

This course will serve as a review of the design and fabrication requirements of the ASME B31.1 and B31.3 codes. Emphasis will be on understanding both what is covered and not covered by the code, including materials requirements, design roles and responsibilities, welding and NDE and pressure testing. The course also includes commonly asked questions and interpretations.

Human Resource and Succession Planning Skills

Personal Computing, Mobile and Cloud Technology Update

It is becoming increasingly clear that most business professionals will constantly be shifting through an array of devices from desktop systems, laptops and Ultrabooks, tablets and smartphones.
